Extremely underrated, lube is one of the most useful items to your sex life! There are 3 main types of lube: water-based, silicone, and hybrid. Within these types we will also have flavored, heating, cooling, anal, and more. Everyone has a preference to which lube is their go to, but some are better for specific things than others. Let's get in to it.
WATER BASED
-This lube is toy safe. Meaning that you don't have to be concerned about it degrading the material of the toy and shortening it's lifespan.
-Good for vaginal dryness as it will help hydrate you and eventually absorb into the skin.
-Can be super runny or a thick, gel-like consistency.
-Will eventually become sticky or evaporate with extended use.
-First ingredient in a quality water-based lube should be aqua
SILICONE
-Not always safe to use with toys as silicone on silicone will 'melt' the toy and ruin it.
-Different grades of silicone available ranging from low quality to high.
-Makes skin soft and lasts incredibly long, not able to wash off with water.
-Great for anal as you don't have to keep reapplying and don't have to worry about friction.
-For a high quality silicone lube, ingredients should just be dimethicone and dimethiconol
HYBRID
-A mix of water-based and silicone.
-Long lasting, slippery, no friction consistency .
-Able to wash off with water.
-Toy safe.

FLAVOURED
-Almost always water-based.
-Usually slightly sticky.
-Be mindful of allergies.
-Available ranging from desserts to fruit; try mixing them together to make your own unique flavors.
-Avoid using for anything other than oral sex.
ANAL
-Can be water-based, silicone, or hybrid.
-Usually just a thicker consistency so you don't have to use as much and it's less runny/messy.
-Some may have a relaxing component to them to help ease the muscles and make anal sex easier.
SENSITIVE
-For people who are extra health conscious or prone to UTI's, these lubes have special ingredients to be less harsh on the body and some even include natural protective agents like tea tree oil, aloe, and olive leaf extract.
FERTILITY
-Regular lube is not related to birth control and will not prevent pregnancy. But if you are actively trying to get pregnant it may be beneficial to find a lube that suits your needs. Regular lube is thick and can make it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg. Fertility lube is usually thinner to replicate natural moisture and has components to it that encourage the sperm to swim with the end goal of pregnancy as a result.
HEATING/COOLING
-These lubes just add a twist of fun by including temperature play. This heightens sensations and can make things even more enjoyable.
-If you find things get hot and heavy easily you might want to try a cooling lube to add a contrasting sensation.
-For stokers or dildos a warming lube can make it feel more realistic and take solo play to the next level.
NATURAL
-Technically you can use any lube, but there are specific types of lube that are meant to help alleviate daily dryness.
-Usually water-based or silicone but always with a thin consistency as it is meant to feel natural.
-Helpful for menopause or anyone going through hormonal changes that effect regular vaginal moisture.
OIL-BASED
-Oil based lubes are not very common because you must wash it off afterwards and it notoriously stains sheets. It is the only lube that can't be used with condoms as it will deteriorate the material. It'll usually leave you feeling greasy but can be used for slippery massages that turn into sex in a pinch.
