BDSM Basics

In this video I talk about my beginner BDSM starter kit and some of my personal items & preferences. I explain everything in more detail down below. If you want even more details on any specific items; everything will be linked to their own educational articles.

Some good items to purchase as a beginner to BDSM are:

-Handcuffs

Handcuffs are good for basic restraint or simply aesthetic depending on the type you get. Functional handcuffs can often be used with the headboard on your bed!

-Ankle cuffs

Ankle cuffs are a step up from handcuffs. If you pair them together you can try out tons of new positions and fun ways to include the restraints in the bedroom.

-Collar/leash

Getting a collar/leash is good if you want to explore pet play or a dom/slave power situation. Some collars can be worn on their own and function more as a mental stimulant (i.e. the feeling of owning your partner/being owned.) Or you can get a collar that is meant to be worn with a leash if you want it to have more of a physical function.

-Blindfold

Amazing for heightening all your other senses. Taking away sight can also bring comfort to someone who may feel nervous about 'being watched.'

-Feather tickler

A delicate alternative to people assuming BDSM is only about pain. You can taunt and tease your partner and watch them squirm at your mercy all without inflicting any injury. Try restraining them and doing this!

-Ball gag

This option may be a little intense for some starters. The open mouth and drool can be a huge visual turn on. It also helps control the noise level (whether you're into hearing the muffled moans or you simply don't want to disturb the neighbors!)

-Nipple clamps

Nipple clamps are a great way to stimulate the nipples hands free. Some people enjoy the pressure they feel from the clamps or others wear it because their partner likes the look. If you're self conscious of your nipples this can help you feel more comfortable and give them the attention and stimulation they deserve.

-Rope

Rope can be tricky. If you're a beginner who's interested in rope play you need to do some research first. There are a lot of things you need to know about how to do it safely and you should be wanting to learn actual knots and patterns before attempting on your partner. The reason this is include on this list is because a lot of people feel more comfortable with a delicate, intricate rope design to restrain them rather than a pair of cuffs. Slow and sensual intimacy with your partner and rope can be a great way to start venturing into the art of BDSM! And possibly moving on to more intense sessions once you've gotten the hang of it.

-Whips

Impact play is not for everyone. If you've tried spanking and want to step it up it's a great idea to pull out a whip! There are tons of different types of whips ranging in size and intensity. Beginners usually go for a cat-o-nine-tails flogger. It can be used delicately, almost as a tickler, or as a whip which will leave a stinging sensation. It is important to do some research on the proper ways to use a whip and the aftercare needed before you bring it to your partner. Other paddle style whips can be a little more intimidating and they have more of a solid impact sensation when used, so not usually a first choice for a beginner.

Buying a BDSM kit is a great way to explore but they often don't include a huge variety of items. Once you and your partner know what you're in to you can start investing in better quality products and exploring even further into the world of kink! Approach the subject with excitement and knowledge. Always have a safe word and make sure everything is consensually enjoyed. Know the importance of aftercare.

Now go live out your fetish fantasies!
