How To: Not Get Scammed (While Purchasing Adult Content)

No one wants to be scammed out of their money. In the industry of sex work it can be hard to trust the person you want to buy from. Here are some tips on ways to make sure you get what you pay for.

Use your judgement.

Is this a real person?

There are so many bots on social media. They steal pictures and try to catfish people to scam them. You can usually tell if someone is real by the amount of followers they have, if all their pictures are consistent, they have more than one linked platform, they are verified, etc. It's a red flag if every single post of theirs is directing you to buy content or tip them.

Are they a professional?

Someone does not have to be a signed professional for you to trust them... but it does help! If this person has open profiles promoting their work and you can tell they enjoy or care about what they do, they are probably a safer option. They will most likely have better quality content and more of an online persona than someone just trying to scam. Don't offer random people money for special content if they have no affiliation with sex work. Now, just because someone does sex work does not mean they are interested in creating custom content. Be respectful in asking and check their profiles first to see if they have ever posted or talked about what they offer. Unless they tell you otherwise, please do not expect them to send you any sort of content before payment. If you are going to a professional for this service, know that they are a lot more likely to be a target for a scam than the other way around.

After talking or seeing the method of ordering, consider this:

How is their communication?

There are a couple different ways people approach offering custom content.

  1. A survey or form to fill out and submit

  2. Give a summary of your request and they work out a price with you

For the first scenario; make sure you read everything carefully and select the correct options. It is recommended to be able to talk to whomever you are purchasing from if you have any questions before submitting the request to avoid any miscommunication.

For the second scenario; Be as clear as you possibly can and if either of you have questions they should be resolved before any sort of payment.

Some key questions to ask if not already stated: "Approximately how long is your turn-around time?" "If I want more of ___ will it be extra?" "Will this be exclusive? Is there an additional fee for exclusivity?", "Will I be reimbursed if you cannot complete my order?"

Be upfront with what you want from the individual, respect their boundaries but keep communication open. Let them know if you would appreciate updates through the process (i.e. "I should be filming your video today!", "I'm editing your order right now! You should be receiving it tomorrow.") If they seem to be cutting it close to their specified deadline, respectfully ask them how everything has been coming along. Don't be too pushy as it can create a tense environment. Trust that you've used good judgement and that the individual will follow through with what was agreed on.

Unfortunately, despite your best judgment, it is still a possibility that someone will attempt a scam. Hopefully following these guidelines will be beneficial and decrease the odds of falling victim. Continue to support sex work! ❤
